Yellowknife Family Centre

The Yellowknife Family Centre (YFC) is funded through Health Canada’s Community Action Plan for Children and is sponsored through the in-kind donation of Yellowknife Catholic Schools. The Centre is located on the top level of the Side Door Youth Centre at 4903 – 50th Street. YFC provides services to families of children six and under. Referrals from partnering agencies are admitted on a priority basis with the balance of “waiting list” families accepting limited services while awaiting full membership. The family centre provides a toy lending library, a family play centre, along with parenting resources and workshops.

Four Plus

The Four Plus Program offers a two and one-half hour-structured program to pre-kindergarten children and is housed at Weledeh Catholic School. The program focuses on children who need a head start on their school experience, specifically, children who have been referred to us by our community agencies. We have children who have speech delays, autism, FAE, FAS, cognitive delays and behavioral challenges. We also have foster children and children of single parent families. The program gives children the opportunity to become accustomed to structured activities such as sitting in circle, turn taking and interacting with other children. During circle time, basic concepts such as number and letter recognition and counting to foster cognitive development.
